Hursley Hambledon 2021 report
In all we received 64 entries and the first race was scheduled to go to post at 12.00 noon. However, following a course inspection at 10.30am it was decided to err on the side of caution and delay the first race start time by 1 hour. Although it was safe to race, we had enough day light to be prudent and so acted in the best interest of horse welfare to make sure that any frost in the ground was completely clear.
On the day, 33 runners went to post. The going was Good. The weather was dry and sunny, with a very cold northerly wind.
We preceded the meeting with the required briefings and this being the first meeting of the season it proved to be a useful exercise.
On the day, social distancing protocols were followed. We moved the location of the bookies to avoid a pinch-point and Perspex screens were in place in front of scales, numbers and declaration desks. E-tickets for early bird customers and card readers on the gate proved to be popular.
Of the 33 runners, 4 either fell or unseated the rider. Thus, approx. 88% completed.
Overall, a very successful start to the season with E-tickets and card readers proving popular. The Hursley Hambeldon enjoyed their best gate for 5 years! A very much enjoyed days racing.
